Q: You got your start in interior design by redecorating a friend's home. What made you decide to turn design into a full-time career?
My first priority has always been raising my four children, but once my youngest daughter started school full-time, I was able to devote more energy to my passion for design. As soon as I could dedicate more time, business took off naturally—more projects came in, and I knew I had found my calling.
Q: You were an early pioneer in using Instagram to showcase your work. What has been the most rewarding opportunity that social media has brought you?
One of the most memorable moments was when Good Housekeeping discovered my San Clemente, CA beach house project on Instagram and reached out to feature it. That was a defining moment in my career—it validated my work and helped introduce my designs to an even broader audience.

Q: For designers looking to build a brand, what are your top three pieces of advice?
- Document your work. It sounds obvious, but many designers forget to photograph finished projects after all the hard work that goes into installation. A strong portfolio helps potential clients and brands recognize your aesthetic.
- Stay consistent. Whether it’s through your color palette, styling, or materials, consistency will help define your brand identity.
- Engage with your audience. Social media isn’t just about posting—it’s about connecting. Responding to comments and sharing insights builds trust and keeps your brand top of mind.

Q: Your lighting collection with Hudson Valley Lighting has been a huge success. Is your approach to designing lighting similar to designing a home?
Absolutely. Lighting is one of the most important design elements in a space—it sets the tone, enhances textures, and defines the mood. Just like my interior designs, I aim for a clean, timeless foundation with subtle, modern details that bring character and warmth. I love incorporating mixed metals and layered finishes to add depth.
Q: What was your inspiration for the newest lighting pieces in your collection? Do you have a favorite?
I love airy, statement-making light fixtures that don’t overpower a space. The Debi and Lina pendants were designed with that in mind. The Debi pendant features a woven rope detail, bringing in texture while maintaining a modern silhouette. Both pieces are incredibly versatile—they work beautifully in everything from coastal homes to contemporary spaces.

Q: As a trendsetter in the design world, how do you differentiate between short-lived trends and timeless design?
I always say, trends come and go, but great design lasts. Certain elements, like classic lantern-style lighting, stand the test of time. I prefer keeping shapes simple and versatile so they can adapt to different styles over the years. When a design is too ornate or hyper-trendy, people tend to outgrow it quickly.
Q: When designing a home, at what stage do you start thinking about lighting?
Lighting is never an afterthought—it’s part of the foundation. Early in the design process, we consider how fixtures will influence the layout and ambiance. In kitchens, for example, as soon as we determine cabinetry and island placement, we start mapping out lighting to ensure the perfect balance of function and style.

Q: What advice would you give designers on selecting the right lighting for a space?
- Budget for statement lighting. A well-placed chandelier or sculptural pendant can transform a room.
- Layer your lighting. Use a mix of pendants, sconces, and recessed lighting to create depth and warmth.
- Prioritize function without sacrificing style. In kitchens, opt for substantial island lighting and consider wall sconces or under-cabinet lighting for added ambiance. In bathrooms, make sure lighting is flattering and functional.
Q: If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self just starting out in the industry, what would it be?
Stay true to your vision. It’s easy to get caught up in trends or worry about pleasing everyone, but your authentic style is what will set you apart. Listen to your clients, but also trust your instincts—great design is a blend of expertise and intuition.
